After being selected last year to participate in the VI European Award for Waste Reduction, Nutrition Without Borders participates again in the European Week for Waste Reduction 2015.
The European Week for Waste Reduction comes from a 3-year project supported by the LIFE+ program of the European Commission. This year the Week will be held from 21 to 29 November 2015. The aim is to organize during the same week and throughout Europe, to raise awareness about waste prevention. This is a week to:
- Introduce waste reduction strategies and policies of the European Union and its Member States in this area.
- Promoting sustainable actions to reduce waste across Europe.
- Make public the tasks carried out by the various actors through concrete examples of waste reduction.
- Change the everyday behavior of Europeans (consumption, production).
The NGO Nutrition Without Borders participates in the framework of the European Week for Waste Reduction in 3 actions that contribute to reducing food waste and promote reuse under the project BCN share food.
The first action is the collecting and distributing circuit of the cooked food resources from hotels and restaurants in Barcelona that are distributed among social organizations of the city, this year we expect to recover more than 600kg of food for social purposes.
The second action is centered in formations that are made in the project with the aim of providing knowledge to the users of social centers as how to lead a balanced diet and reduce food waste.
The third action is a solidarity meal organized in a social entity of the city of Barcelona thanks to the collaboration of hotels participating in the project.
