Transforming the School Canteen in Girona: Education and Health Through "La Festa" Comic"

We believe that food education should not stop at the classroom door. Therefore, as part of the Decidim què mengem (We decide what we eat) project, we have brought the comic "La Festa" (The Party) directly into the dining halls of twenty-two schools in Girona. This initiative, supported by the Diputació de Girona, has allowed us to work closely with children during their midday break, using this everyday environment to promote a planetary health diet and raise awareness about what we eat in an engaging way.

Thanks to our strategic partnership with BO i SA catering, we have used the comic as an educational tool that supports the work of the canteen staff. Through this resource, we encourage students to reflect on the importance of local products and learn practical ways to prevent food waste—actions that directly impact the reduction of CO2 emissions and improve individual health. Our goal is for every child to become an agent of change in their own home, developing critical thinking towards advertising and unsustainable consumption habits.

We are very proud of the reception this initiative has received across the region, reaching a diverse range of schools committed to this transformative vision:

Escola Domeny, Escola Migdia, Escola Annexa-Joan Puigvert, Escola El Bosc de la Pabordia, and Escola Montjuïc in Girona; Escola 9 de quart in Quart; Escola Forn d'anells in Fornells de la Selva; Escola Puig d'Arques and Escola Aldric in Cassà de la Selva; Escola Moreres in Flaçà; Escola Falgueres in Celrà; Escola El Bruc in Riells i Viabrea; Escola Mª de Déu del Socors in Hostalric; Escola la Bòbila in Les Preses; Escola Lluís Castells in Riudaura; Escola Malagrida and Escola Pla de dalt in Olot; Escola Els Grecs in Roses; Escola Sant Cristòfol in Les Planes d'Hostoles; Escola de Campllong; Escola Carles de Fortuny in Esponellà, and Escola M. Àngels Anglada in Figueres.

With this distribution, Nutrició Sense Fronteres reaffirms its commitment to equitable nutritional education that helps build a fairer and healthier food system for future generations.
